My Trip... To Nowhere ~ Chapter One

There I was, sitting on my front porch, gazing at the star strewn sky. It was 10:36 at night - and pretty dark. I always sit out here before bedtime. It's just so peaceful you know. Theres no annoying little brother to bother you, or theres just no one to ask you to do this, and to do that. Just... no one to disturb me - yet. So I might as well enjoy the few minutes of peace before going to bed. It helps clear my mind, and it is somewhat relaxing and... calm.

I heard thuds coming closer as feet made contact on out wooden floor. Footsteps. Turning around, I saw my dad walking towards me. Leaning on the banister next to me, he said,

"Ready to go to bed yet Tom?"
"In a few minutes." I replied.
"Alright then. Don't forget to lock the door after you come back in."
I nodded.
"I'll give you until... " He peered at his watch. "...10:45."
I nodded again.
He left.

I locked my gaze once more at the star strewn sky. So many stars... I began counting them. Although I knew there was no point in this, I just thought I'd give it a try. I got to 16, my lucky number, then stopped. This is utterly pointless. Counting stars. I gazed at the 16th star. I was starting to feel drowsy. Maybe I should go back inside? I was about to get up, but I stopped. What was that? I looked at the sky. One star was twinking abnormally bright. The 16th star. What? No, it can't be. It's growing. Yes, it is growing. What? A star, growing? This is insane. Shaking my head, I stood up and stretched. I yawnedm and looked back at the star. Wait. It is growing bigger. Its now a size of a 1p coin. Huh? It's.. red. No, now its green. No wait, its pink now. What?? This star is changing colour? Whats going on? In the back of my head, I thought, Dad should see this. But I was too mesmerised to call for him. This can't be a star... it must be some kind of... light from a plane. It is now a size of a 50p coin. Somewhere in the back of my head, I was thinking,

This is not a star I am looking at.
